My mother in law who's had maybe 2 dogs her entire life is full of advise like that. One time Pita ran down the road to the neighbors, my mominlaw says to me , did you spank her when you finally caught her? I told her that wouldn't do any good cuz Pita would think I spanked her because I did catch her, she wouldn't realize WHY she was gettin spanked.
So mominlaw says "things that always worked when we were young don't work anymore?" I just didn't comment, she has no animals whereas I have literally 50. I train my own horses, all of my animals are well behaved and well socialized altho I'm no expert I think i know somewhat about training. But OOOH NOOO she knows more!
Ultimately it's up to you to do what you think is best, not that you can't keep an open mind to experienced reliable people's opinions because sometimes other people may have a good suggestion or valid reason why you may be doing something wrong. |
