It has upset their stomachs when I've done it too fast. Those slow switches used to drive me crazy, but after a few times of doing it I don't even think about it anymore. It's an easy routine for me now. One thing I've found is that the switch is much easier on them with what I consider the better quality, grain free foods.... so I can make the change just a little bit faster than I would otherwise.
Doing it this way is worth it to me. I've seen them get bored with their food, and I don't like that. Rotating keeps them excited about mealtime, and I think it's helped keep me from having picky eaters (the opposite is true for some, I know).
