Kaji did this to me once. I thought he was sick, it turns out he just wanted my food. I had to wait him out and he started eating again. He would go over to my roomie's dog's food bowl. They were on the same food! In my case it was "the grass is greener on the other side" type of thing. He did pick up a weird habit from that, he mostly eats when he's playing. He'll wait until I start throwing the tennis ball to decide to "carbo load" or whatever he's thinking.
