3. Any suggestions on when he should be dewormed? Should the vet do it or should I? How often? There's differing opinions on this but I don't deworm until about 8 weeks. I use Nemex 2.
4. He is gaining a good amount of weight every day! Was 6 oz at birth and now weighs about 13 oz. Is that an appropriate amount of weight for his age? Sounds like a good gain. With him being the only pup, he may get a little extra chubby.
5. Can he hear me when I talk to him and kiss him? Does he recognize my smell yet? Most certainly, yes. His hearing is not 100% but his sense of smell is there and he recognizes your touch.
6. Do you have any other suggestions for me on things I should be watching out for or doing at this stage of the game Once he starts walking around, you can begin potty training. At that stage, they are like little blank sheets of paper, waiting to be written on.
7. When will he be weened? I let the Mom determine that, but start feeding mine kibble softened in water at 4-5 weeks. I also add a little karo to it. |
I have no experience with c-sections so can't help you there. As for feeding Mom, I always use a calcium supplement. Low calcium can lead to eclampsia. You may not have much of an issue with her just feeding the one pup. Cesar's is not a good food, but most dogs will eat it and it's okay for picky dogs short term. I usually boil some chicken and beef liver for my nursing Moms.
