Greenies Treats & Health Problems We have three Yorkies; a female who is 2-1/2 and two males who are 11 months old and litter mates. Until recently, all three have been in excellent health. Several weeks ago, we gave one of our males a petite Greenie (made for toy breads). That night our Yorkie threw up all evening. Since he appeared his normal mischievious healthy self in the morning, we did not think anything of the incident.
This past Friday, we gave all three of our Yorkies a petite Greenie as a treat. That evening ALL three became extremely ill. One of our males vomited so violently that he lost consciousness and quit breathing. We were able to clear his airway and get him breathing again. Needless to say, we took a VERY speedy trip to the local veterinary hospital.
Our little male has asperated pneumonia. The vets have a "hot line" to other veterinary clinics and have learned that others are seeing such problems as having to perform necessary surgery to remove Greenie pieces from the stomachs and/or esophogus's of dogs.
We contacted our dear breeder to let her know of the incident and she said that she had been experiencing digestive problems when she gave her Yorkies the Greenie treats. She has since thrown the treats out!
PLEASE DO NOT GIVE YOUR PRECIOUS YORKIES THESE VARY DANGEROUS TREATS!!! |
