Dear YT Members-
My name is Mary and I know a lot of you know who I am because I was the OP of a thread yesterday that a ton of people commented on. First of all, I am new to YT (3 days old) and joined because I have 3 yorkies that I love, I wanted to make friends and gain knowledge as a yorkie owner. I got on for the first time and gave some information about my dogs which some members took issue with. I was in essence screamed at for over 3 hours by many people for saying that I loved my breeder and believed that she and my dogs were the best! I have since been told that according to Yorkie standards she is unethical because she doesn't breed steel blue and gold to steel blue and gold. Because I disagreed with these members (my opinion only) I was yelled at, called names, insulted and accused of joining YT to sell mix breed dogs to unsuspecting people. My issue with this situation is that people should be able to have differing opinions and still treat eachother with civility at the very least! This should be a positive place where anyone can come to gain information, feel welcomed, find friends, have differing opinions and be at differing stages of Yorkie knowledge. Yes, we all know that there are devious people out there who want to do things that hurt the breed but the majority of people coming on this site love the breed and their dogs. I have been told by a Senior member of YT that things
WILL NOT and
CANNOT change. That people will continue to speak their minds, be blunt and if they want flat out rude. I do not believe the majority of people on YT are like this but the negative ones are speaking the loudest at this point and running the show! I was almost run out of YT the other day because of what was said to me but because of a few kind and supportive members who encouraged me through that moment I decided to not only stay but try and make things better. I truly believe that it is possible to uphold the yorkie standards, the code of ethics, make the breed better, weed out the devious and evil people with bad intentions AND still be nice, courteous and civil at the same time. I do not think that is asking for the moon! I am honestly wondering if anyone else would like to join me in this endeavor? And that would be to welcome with open arms new people who want to learn about yorkies and make new friends, to uphold the breed and it's standards but to care first and foremost about attracting, welcoming and educating people because without them the breed will suffer. To refuse to tolerate rudeness, judgement without proof, meaness, and ganging up on people who don't deserve it! I was told that the way things are done will
NEVER change and I don't agree with that! I believe that
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE and
ANYTHING CAN CHANGE if enough of us stand together to make it better!! If enough of us pledge to be
POSITIVE, the people who are blunt, rude, mean, judgemental and the ones who refuse to change will be a minority!! I was told that "if being mean keeps one devious person with bad intentions out then it's worth the ones who leave because of it!" Why does it have to be one or the other? I believe devious people always show their true colors very quickly. We don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water! I'm wondering how many other good intentioned people have endured similar episodes and left because of it? I know I am new to YT and don't know everything there is to know about the site or the breed but I know right from wrong, positive from negative! And I believe we can do better!! Is there anyone else who would be willing to help me make a change??
