Offering to take them back is something at least. I would think careful screening (finding out if they've ever returned a dog or sent it to a shelter might help). I know I've always been committed to the life of the dog - come what may - and have educated my children that a pet is a lifetime commitment and if you can't care for them (barring some unfortunate situation) for life not to get them...and no returning them because they didn't turn out "perfect" - And I admit it hasn't always been easy to keep that commitment but I always have. I wish more people viewed pets this way, they're so innocent and all they want to do is love and be loved.
One should never tell a breeder they'd give the dog back and then not - of course just because someone was the breeder doesn't mean that's the best home to go back to.
