I believe you answered your own question. He wants the kitty to play with him. Instead of further isolating your yorkie from the "pack," why not get on the floor and play with him yourself or take him for a nice, long walk? He has probably built up enough energy during the day and is so happy by the time "the rest of the pack" has come home that he is trying to stir up some excitement.
