Pet dogs don't have to look like great representatives of the breed, but breeding dogs should be great representatives; a pet owner can see "inner beauty." Even when two nearly perfect specimens are bred together you don't get perfection, but you have enough traits, that at least the offspring look like a yorkie. When you are using poor representatives of the breed, you are breeding in traits that will go on and on and these types of breeders sell with open registration; meaning that whoever buys a dog, can breed them too. So as time goes on, the majority of yorkies will not even look like a yorkie, they may be AKC purebred, but they won't have any of the features that a yorkie should have. That's why it's important to support breeders who breed to standard; we are trying to preserve the look of Yorkshire terrier for years to come.
By the way Kaji-kun has a gorgeous face!
