I'm not really sure how to guide you here but I can suggest that you
socialize him more. Take walks down a busy street with him close by your
side. Do this a couple times a week even for 15-20 mins. It's you and him
only in the house and he's is being over protective of you. Can you drop
him off at a day care for a day during the week? He needs to be with more
people IMO. Buddy on the other hand loves people. Even stranger's who come into our home, he barks, sounds like a guard dog but once he sees
I"m ok with them he's their best friend. Thank heavens.
My trainer suggested I take him on walks in the village where there may
be other dogs walking. He has a problem with large dogs in the neighboorhood. She suggested I show him, off our grounds, that large
dogs will not harm him, hence a different neighborhood. I thought perhaps
it may work for you only with people walking by. Dosen't hurt to try.
I think he needs to be with people more. When theres only you and him,
like me and Buddy, I think the bond becomes stronger because they rely
on only you. We are also joining classes with other dogs next month.
Maybe that would be good for the two of you as well. Mixing with different
dogs and different people may be good for him too.
