I just wanted to add that last week I took my little 3 pounder in for an invasive neutering for retained testicles. He is stitched up his entire belly. He did very well. I picked him up later that day and took him home and, apart from being more sleepy than usual, he is fine. He hasn't bothered the stitches at all.
I was just as worried as you are since he is so tiny - but he handled it like a trooper. Good luck with your little one.
