I always described a cotton-coat as feeling like wool.
This is how it is described here along with a silky coat:
There are 2 kinds of coats in Yorkies, and there are 2 ways of maintaining their coat. If you have lots of time for grooming, you could keep their coat long - in which case, I would suggest the silk coat.(that is a coat that most closely resembles human hair and that generally hangs straight). If you are like me, and don't have the time or desire for the almost daily brushing, you can keep the coat in a puppy cut,(short all over), or keep the body short and the face and legs long. If you plan on going this route, then you could also consider a cotton coat (the hair is softer and thicker with a bit of a curl). If not trimmed, this coat will tend to mat, and be difficult to maintain. I trim mine myself in a puppy cut (they really do stay looking like puppies). Both moms are soft coats, and they are bred to silk coats, so usually there are both types in the litters.
