I just learned that the Hill l/d is 10% higher in fat than the Royal Canin, so I would go the RC Hepatic LS 14 route....
For teeth, dry food will not deter tartar and plaque. Maybe get some guaze and wrap on your finger to do some brushing, until you can gain his trust again to use a tooth brush
