I have the same issue so first let me say I am sorry you are dealing with this.

As other said, you first need to determine if your dog has a shunt or MVD.

If its MVD, you have to weigh the benefits and risks for yourself.

I personally decided to put my MVD dog on Dasuquin (a joint supplment) because her LP was causing her to limp a lot and on the supplement she doesnt limp at all... she has no symptoms, is on a low protein diet and gets medicine only when necessary... so I felt for her the benefits outweighed the risks.
