I'm glad you have found something that works for you now. When your puppy is older, you might want to crate train, and this is where you keep him in a small crate with just enough room in it to stand up and turn around in. Because it's so small, he will not want to pee in it, and the puppy will endure discomfort and even pain, in order not to soil his bed. Because you don't want him to endure any pain, you have to be ready to wake up every three hours to place him on a pad or outside. This is the period of time where many people say, you will be sleepy, and not get a full nights sleep.

So right now, you are just doing what a breeder would be doing, but as your puppy gets older, you will be doing what pet owners do, and you have to be ready to get up every couple of hours. I kept Joey in an x-pen in the day time, and he used the pee pad, but I couldn't really call him pee pad trained until he learned to seek out the pee pad, when he was in the larger room, and crate training speeds this process because you put them on the pad, during the middle of the night and first thing in the morning.
