I do think it will help... if not a lot, at least a little bit. This is why it's always suggested to get your dogs neutered before 6-7 months of age to prevent this. But to answer your question, I don't think it's ever too late to neuter as it will prevent health problems in the future. I've also heard of older dogs getting fixed and it calming them down. Remember it will take a few months for the testosterone to get out of their system. The marking will be difficult to get him out of for sure but I think it's possible if you are 100% committed. He needs to be watched 24/7 and when he can't be watched, he needs to go in a crate or expen or a gated area... or wearing belly bands.

He sounds like basic obedience training would help him out too. There can be very friendly obedient unaltered dogs if they are trained properly but I do believe that overall neutering makes for a better pet. Dogs naturally need to mate twice a year and when they are unaltered, it will drive them crazy if they don't get to and often leads to aggression, running away to find a female in heat, etc.

Basically, I think you should neuter. It's not an easy way out though and it won't automatically cure your dog, however I think it's worth it and will for sure help out in training him!
