I think it depends on the type of coat they have. My Jake and Maya both have curly coats and if they grow out they look like big powder puffs LOL. So I keep their hair short. Then Sky has a thick cotton coat so I keep his cut up to his body and Lily has a beautiful silky coat that I'm growing out.
I must say I am partial to the long silky coat I think they look beautiful with their long flowing hair but it's a lot more work to groom.
