I give the benadryl to Zeus three times a day first dose at 6am second dose at 2pm and again right before bed at 9pm. I can't remember how long it took to help. He used to itch at night really bad and he licked his paw so bad he had a hot spot. I bought some hot spot treatment myself and started wiping his paws clean and applying that until he left it alone. He still itches but not nearly as bad. Right now is a bad time for allergies. I will stop the benadryl once things calm down.
I consulted with my vet on all this before doing so and recommend you ask about dosage.
