Girl loses part of arm in dog attacksShareThisPrint E-mail .By Alexis Stevens

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

During the past week, 8-year-old Erin Ingram has endured five surgeries and the amputation of part of her arm.

.The third-grader was attacked by two dogs while playing in the yard of her family's DeKalb County home on March 9.

Tuesday evening, the dogs' owner, Twyann Artrell Vaughn, turned herself into DeKalb police and was arrested. Vaughn has been charged with reckless conduct, a misdemeanor. Her bond has been set at $5,000.

Erin faces a long road to recovery, and her family says she's not out of danger yet.

"We continue to try to stay strong for her," her mother, Tawonna Ingram told the AJC. "We’re praying every day that she continues to have good days."

Erin was attacked by an American Staffordshire Terrier and another mixed breed dog in her front yard, police said. The first officer on the scene shot and killed one of the animals, and the other was later euthanized.

Ingram's family has retained an attorney, but has no immediate plans for legal action, attorney Kevin Adamson told the AJC.

"They are more concerned that justice is served," Adamson said.

For now, the family is focusing on Erin's recovery, Adamson said. Erin is in stable, but critical condition, he said
