does this playpen have netting ? If so - I wouldn't do it - they can get caught in it`with those sharp little nails.
you're way better off with a crate or X pen - or a very small confined area while you're not there
shoot - I'd be a nervous wreck leaving a 6 week old alone for an hour let alone 9 hours.....I hope you can find a way to resolve the time he may be alone so it's not as long as you spoke about before....
