so sad I am so sorry that you have to give up a dog you have had that long. We just lost our min. schnauzer that my daughter had for 16yrs (she was a rescue we got for my daughter when they both were 6mo old). This has been so much harder on me than me losing a dog....watching your child lose one....I never knew how hard it would be.
I used to live in Alexandria but moved to Stafford. If you get in a bind, I'll help you out by babysitting him while you find a home or help you find one or something. We have lost our elderly dogs.... 3 of them in the last 3 years. We now have only our Yorkie and a kitty that is not even a year old (although she is Siberian so wayyyyy bigger than my yorkie even though she isn't even a year old). I have kids but they have all been raised around my dogs and my mother's maltese and they NEVER pick them up (although my 4 yr old does lug around our cat .... even though I'm not sure how he even holds the kitty....lol).
I know someone looking for a yorkie but I don't know if she would want one that old. I will tell her though (it is one of my16yr old daughter's teachers).
Let me know if you get in a bind and need some help. My kids would totally enjoy helping.
