Good questions. Add to that: why wouldn't you take the advice of your vet (who's supposed to know about these things) over advice given by "many people"? Are you willing to risk your dog's life, and that of her puppies, over "many people" 's opinion? At least by taking your vet's suggestion, you can feel relatively safe in the outcome.

If I were in your shoes, I would never forgive myself if she died trying to whelp puppies she didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of safely delivering. If you're going to make a mistake, make it on the side of caution.
