I agree with brendah, don't buy from breeders who use the term "teacup" especially if you want a smaller yorkie. They use the term teacup, but end up selling dogs that grow way over standard size. While even good breeders have dogs that are smaller. they find pet homes for them because a Yorkie under 5 pounds shouldn't be bred. Those that actually breed ultra tinies, are greeders, and don't care if they lose the mothers during child birth as long as they can sell a few more puppies for outrageous sums. Just because the mother and father are small, this in no way insures the offspring will be small, the mother and father could have been the runts, and their genes carry larger size yorkies.
No breeder can guarantee a dog will be a certain weight as an adult, they can give you an estimate, any breeder that tells you full grown weight will be 3 pounds is lying to you. I encourage people to find breeders who breed for the whole package, not just one trait, a yorkie has so much going on with it besides it size. If size is your only consideration, when buying a dog, I encourage you to look into rescues, many have smaller yorkies, and this way, you will know the adult size. |
