We had a dog, unbeknowist to us, swallow a sewing needle w/ thread. She was about the size of a sheltie....any way the needle made it all the way her system until it was time to poop. We noticed her straining to poop and crying. Quick look at her....hmmmm....butt hole and it was protuding, (looked like it was turning inside out) Took her to the emergency vet, x ray showed the pin had turned sideways and was stuck in the muscle....when she tried to eliminate....it pushed out her muscle and the fecal matter hurt pressing against it. He was able to remove the pin, pushed her splinter muscle backed inside and did draw string stitches which were removed the next day.

Btw, for people "looking" for swallowed items. When I was small I swallowed a nickle....for three days, I had to go potty in a bucket....then my mother "looked" for it....ewwww....needless to say...she finally said....it can stay, I ain't looking any more
