Don't feel so bad. I have done the exact same thing as you. Nikko (who's 6 1/2 months old) pretty much goes wherever he wants to in the house. I also leave the food and water out for him to eat whenever he wants. The problem is that I work and am away from home about 10 hours a day. I close him in the kitchen with a baby gate and I leave out his food, water, toys and wee wee pad. He has a crate that he sleeps in at night. I am trying to wee wee pad train him and it is going slowly. At night he sleeps in his crate but I put a wee wee pad outside it so he can do his business. I leave the crate open but I close him in a small area with the baby gate. He is very good about using the wee wee pad at night. During the day when he is home alone sometimes he uses the wee wee pad but sometimes I come home to find that he has relieved himself all over the kitchen floor. He confuses me because sometimes he walks right up to the wee wee pad and pees and other times he goes on the floor. It can be frustrating and most articles address housebreaking dogs by taking them outside. I have done this with Nikko when the weather was warm but winter is almost here and I can't take him out in frigid conditions. I guess all we can do is be patient and watch them very carefully when we are around them. Try closing your dog in whatever room of the house you are in, that way you can keep a better eye on her. When she does her little wiggle, take her to the wee wee pad or litter box. When she does the right thing give her a treat and praise her to death. Most importantly, be very patient. I have read posts from people here whose dogs are over a year old and still aren't fully potty trained. Every dog is different and some take longer to get it than others.
