I guess if you contacted them and they said it was okay, then I would be okay with it. I'm sure others on here would have better insight. I've got Reesie on Orijen Puppy and I would like to try the Fish. He is 8 months old and I was going to wait just a little bit longer, but since you said that Champion said it was okay, then maybe I'll switch sooner.
