Awww poor little girl. The anesthesia and pain meds make them a bit out of sorts for the first few days. She will be her perky self soon! They recover so fast...just amazing little bugs.Thanks for updating!

Glad surgery went well. Jersey broke his leg in Nov and had surgery, pins and a plate placed. It was a rough 6 weeks of healing but you would never know if you saw him running today!!! Before you know it she will back in full swing.

No problem! Thanks for all the good information you’ve all been able to give me! These forums are so helpful to new Yorkie owners no matter how many books you read or how much you think you prepare yourself to bring home a new Yorkie. You all were so right, about her being her perky self soon! It only lasted about 12 hours with Shylo – and then low and behold she was back to her perky self! It didn’t take her long at all! She’s doing great. Happy and trying to be as playful as she can. I also took her to her Vet 2 days after she got home and she’s healthy and the Vet said everything looked great including her leg. She got 2 of her vaccines – Distemper and Bordetella (intranasal). She didn’t mind the needle at all, but really didn’t like getting the Bordetella via intranasal! But I guess who likes getting stuff stucked up their noses! I noticed when I got her home and out of her dog carrier she threw up a little bit on her blanket. But just a little bit...

I had her confined to her playpen for the 1st two days after her surgery, but it was so small and she didn’t have much room to move about, I felt bad, so I put up her Super XPen, which gives her a bit more room. Her bed isn’t as close to her food and she has a nice little potty area (pads) away from everything. She can get up and walk around a bit more too without being so closed in. She’s eating and drinking so well, better than when I first took her home. I’m so proud of her!! I let her out only to sit on the floor on my lap for massages and for about 10 minutes at most, 2 times a day, to roam about free in my living room, but then back to her Super XPen she goes. I don’t like taking her out of the pen because she’s so perky and playful and when I let her out she tries to run and she’s super fast even with a broken leg. I'm paranoid to let her out. I feel so bad, I can tell she wants to play so much and run around and jump like a little puppy, but she has to wait until she’s fully healed. She must be so bored. I’m with her pretty much 24/hours unless I’m sleeping, but I’m trying to think of ways to make this situation fun for her? She’s got lots of toys, but I just don’t know what else I can do so she’s not so bored! I can tell she’s dying to get out of her pen any chance she gets!

She’s wearing a little, and I swear the tiniest Elizabethan collar I’ve ever seen. I don’t take it off her at all. She can eat fine in it and drink fine, but I can tell she wants it off. She puts up with it though, and for the most part is use to it, but she’ll try scratching it here and there with her other back leg. I caught her last night with her collar tucked under the external fixtures on her broken leg and I couldn’t really tell if she was getting her head down far enough to lick her wound/stitches. She’s so clever and it looked like she may have found a way to maneuver her collar to get to her leg, but I only saw her do this twice and stopped her immediately. She better be good and stop her little smart clever tricky ways – for now at least.

I really wanted to take her to puppy kindergarten, which they say is best to do around 12 weeks old (which she is), but I know we should probably wait until she’s all healed. Potty training I feel has been placed on hold too, since I can’t take her outdoors. She was doing so good outdoors too. I hope that doesn’t effect potty training her. Those few things are the only things I feel frustrated with. If anybody has any good ideas on how to keep Shylo not so bored being so confined I’d appreciate it!

Also, I have to clean her pins/around the holes in Shylos skin with hydrogen peroxide daily. She does NOT like this at all. And it can be really difficult to hold her down without her getting so antsy. I’d like to clean it twice a day, but have been only doing it once a day, the best I can! It’s a little easier to do right after I give her pain/anti-inflammation medicine.

She’s on 0.07 ml of Meloxicam for 10-14 days, 0.15 ml of Metronidazole for diarrhea 2x a day for 5-7 days, and then I have Tramadol for her. They said to give 0.04 ml of Tramadol 2-3 times a day AS needed for pain management. Right after her surgery I gave Shylo the Tramadol for 2 days 2 x (every 1-12 hours), but it has completely knocked her out and made her so drowsy. I’ve tapered off to giving it to her only once a day and she’s doing fine with that. I’d like to stop giving it to her all together, because I don’t even think she really needs it all, but it’s so hard to tell whether she really needs it? She doesn’t seem to act like she’s in pain at all! So I guess it would be okay to stop it,and if I notice pain or her acting weird then give her some, the directions doesn’t give any specific time period at all when it can or should be stopped, which I found a little weird...
