Breeds at risk for congenital atlantoaxial instability include all toy breeds, especially Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Pekingese, toy poodles, and Yorkshire terriers. These dogs usually show signs at less than one year of age, and symptoms can occur after very mild trauma, such as jumping off furniture, which would be considered normal activity.
Any dog, young or old and of any breed, is at risk for atlantoaxial instability after a traumatic event, such as being hit by a car or being an unrestrained passenger in a car accident.
they can do xrays but make sure to get digital if you can so they can put on a cd to go to neuro or orthopedic |
I took her in this a.m. and the vet moved her neck from side to side and not one cry came out. She felt her neck and said there's nothing to be concerned about that she probably hurt herself. She gave me some pain meds. I don't want to sound rude but its not always good to jump to major conclusions and get people scared the way you did. I know you were trying to help but you basically gave me no other option except she was an AAI dog.
