I agree with what you said Marci about plain salads - you can eat a bunch but never feel 'full' - but adding other stuff can really turn it into a meal ....
My SIL makes THE BEST Ceaser salad - she adds artichoke hearts - olives and lots of Feta - it's better than most restaurants
