People have been saying Derby is a mix, including Yorkie breeders. He looked yorkie as a puppy but he was a VERY big yorkie even as a puppy. We just call him a mix now because the older he gets, the more he starts to look less and less like standard Yorkies and I'm not just talkin' about size. Also, his breeders were very dishonest with us so we can't exactly promise anyone, or ourselves, that he really is a Yorkie. He definitely has strong Yorkie genes, but that could just mean he's more Yorkie in his mix.
Some day, I'd love the DNA test just to know because frankly, paying $1450 for a mix breed is ridiculous. (850, plus vet visit upon purchase! sorry but not fair if he's a mix...). There's a part of me that hopes to god he was just a badly bred Yorkie so I can at least justify the cost. I love him, but that's a lot of money.
