I can tell you first hand they are a huge joke! Getting anything from them is near impossible. I had a mixed breed that was registered with them and I was NEVER able to get a pedigree or anything else. They take your money then ignore you.
My understanding is that they are some kind of database for pedigrees. I see a dog registered ACA and I click the back button!!
Breeders who have been banned from the AKC use registries like this and then have to sell their pups for cheap because they aren't AKC registered. The biggest one besides the CKC now is APRI, and again, most breeders who use these are banned from AKC and this way they can still say their dogs are registered.
I personally would never buy a dog registered with anyone except the AKC in the USA. Other countries have their own legit registries. I don't know the percentage, but it has to be near 99% of these breeders are commercial breeders selling to pet stores.
