When we think of a getting a Yorkie, we all have that fantasy of that cute baby doll face with a short nose and perky little ears and cute little body. But what happens when you decide to adopt a yorkie and it has the opposite of all those traits? That is my dilemma now. I am at a crossroad. I love the picture perfect yorkies we all see in those magazines that make our hearts melt..but than there are those sweet little or big yorkies that the breeder didn't want or couldn't sell. The yorkie I am about to meet from a rescue is 7lbs at 6months, has large floppy ears, undocked tail, and may be a parti..but not sure. He has the sweetest face but is not what I was looking for. But I can't stop thinking about him. I am at a place now where I can afford to get that baby-faced yorkie..but am wondering if I should give up my fantasy for now and rescue? Has anyone adopted a puppy mill rescue or breeder surrender and has no regrets? Thanks!! sorry for such a long thread..
I saw your thread and had to respond. If you look at the little angel sitting on the pink bear that is our baby Rizzo who passed away in Dec. 2008. She was a puppy mill rescue from Ark. I have been around dogs all my life and can say she was one of the most loving gentle souls I have ever met.
Who she was in looks and personality when we got her and what she BECAME from love and nurturing was incredible. We miss her every day They take these puppy mill dogs out and shoot them in the head when they are no good for breeding.
After her passing we adopted a yorkie that is 11lbs has floppy ears and does not look like the typical cutsie yorkie but we love her her personality and would not trade her for anything.
Cuddled up to me right now as I write this is Rocco a shelter rescue that has been with me for only 2 weeks. He was a stray, matted, stinky and a hot mess. He is so handsome now only 2 weeks later, sweet just a love. I am fostering him until he is placed from ytnr. He gives me yorkie kisses every day he is so grateful to be in a nice warm home where he is loved and a nice warm bed to sleep with his foster siblings and foster mommy & daddy.
If you could open your heart to a yorkie that needs you and needs to rescued that is my vote.
Mom to Sydney Rose, Lacey Rose and Foster mommy to Rocco
