That is what I thought I wanted too, when I decided I wanted a yorkie - I had this image in my head of what I wanted -which was a standard yorkie. Lexi wasn't a rescues but the family she came from were selling her and her brother because they were worried their small kids would hurt them. I fell in love and felt that bond! At 4 months old, she didn't look like all the puppies in the magazine, larger with big floppy ears (although I was assured she was purebred - I even called the breeder and the breeders vet to confirm their story).
Lexi is now 10lbs, with floppy ears. I originally thought I'd regret not getting a younger puppy, but that quickly wore off. I always get asked if she is a mix, but honestly I wouldn't be happier and couldn't ask for a better dog.
What I'm trying to say is that if you feel a bond with this puppy, then maybe he came into your life for a reason. If you gut is telling you otherwise, keep looking.
