I'm glad you found a good sitter, that's key. I can board Thor at his daycare, so he gets to stay at someone's house and be spoiled while I am away (which is good for consistency, since he gets spoiled with me as well).

I do wish places were more dog friendly. I guess I'm a little spoiled myself, because I lived for a long time in New York, where dogs are allowed EVERYWHERE, even nice restaurants. Now I live in San Francisco, which everyone says is dog friendly, but I don't think it's that great. We don't have a single dog park specifically for small dogs! The few official dog parks are an embarrassment - no grass, just big, dusty squares. And other places where dogs are allowed off-leash are generally not fenced. And even with our limited spaces, there are still stiff-butts who complain about dogs. It's true a lot of people let their dogs off-leash where it's not allowed, but that's because our dogs don't have anywhere else to run around.

I think there should be a rule that if you can pick your dog up, you can take it with you inside.
