Bailey did this too for a little while and it was random, but it wasn't just at night AND it only last 3 or 4 days and not every hour. It went away. I think he had a "hairball" or something stuck in his throat that he was trying to get out. Collapsed trachea which i've also dealt with is much more brutal sounding like they're trying to catch their breathe and can't breathe. At any rate I would give lots of water and try a different vet! If this vet isn't experienced on collapsed treach's that would scare me (only because i've lost two yorkies to it). Good luck!
