I went through this when Piper was about 5 months old. Piper slept in the kitchen in her x-pen at night. My problem was my son who was home from college for the summer was up all night. He and his friends hung out all summer in our family room downstairs going in and out of the kitchen all night long. Everytime Piper saw or heard anybody she wanted out of the pen to play. Sometimes my son took her downstairs with them and when Piper was brought back upstairs the barking and crying would start. I would complain to my son can't you hang out at somebody's elses house once in a while. Which he replied that nobody elses parents wanted them over late at night. I wonder why. So rather then having my son and friends hanging out on the streets at night I decided to let Piper sleep with me at night. Best decision I ever made. From the first night I brought her to bed she curls in a ball next to me and falls right to sleep. You don't hear a peep from her all night long and is perfectly content to stay in bed until I'm ready to get up. Letting your baby be with you in your bedroom will probably end the barking problem.
