We have had hardwood floors before we moved. It was alot of work, and not to forgiving of "accidents" either. I love the tile down stairs, but I dont think I want it through out the house. It is very hard, and I want the babies to be comfy....

Laminate is floating floor, I think it imitates wood, but is much cheaper, you clip it together or glue it. Good luck with your decision!
