I agree. Recall is SO important. I am still working on it with Jackson continually.

We live on 3 acres of land unfenced, but we have 90 acres of farmland behind us. When he was younger, he NEVER ran far and we could always get him back in. Once he turned 1, he seemed to want to just do whatever. Sooo... I purchased a 50 foot training lead on eBay and we practice every day where he goes out the whole 50 feet, I let him explore, wander, etc (as if he wasn't on leash) and will say "Jackson, come!" in a high pitched voice and I always have a treat ready in my pocket. Every time he comes in from outside, he also gets a treat. I want him to associate indoors with treat. He also knows to "stay" when my backdoors are open.

Whatever I have been doing is working -- because just the other day, my stepdad had the door open bringing groceries in and Jackson went wandering out (he never goes flying or anything, he's a wanderer, lol) and I simply said Jackson, come! and he came right back inside. I praised him sooo much and gave him a piece of ham! LOL.

I think it's really important to practice outside because a lot of times dogs will listen to you perfectly indoors, but once they're outside... it's all downhill. I also practiced a bit at the dog park with PLENTY of distractions and he was coming every time I called his name!
