Default Working and getting a Yorkie?

I really hope this does not turn into a heated topic, it's an honest question . . .

Do most people who have Yorkies not work? I ask this because I was talking with woman who breeds them today and her first question was do I and/or my fiance work. He works a 9-5 and I usually work 3 days a week but my schedule constantly changes (every other month I may have a 4th day I work, some times I work less than 3 days). She basically went on to say that until 4-5 months the puppies can't be alone for more than 3-4 hours and that even when full grown they "shouldn't" be left alone for 8 hours. She also suggested getting 2 instead of one so they can keep eachother company. I can see that this makes sense, but we're not sure how we feel about getting 2 dogs.

I understand that Yorkies are very social, like to be around their people and I do feel that we spend a good amount of time at home. I also would try to bring the dog with us when possible to as not leave it at home, but it's not like I can just not go to work. Basically, I'm wondering how other people do it. Are all of you lucky enough to have someone home all day with your dogs or is there a way around this? I kinda had my heart set on getting a Yorkie but this discussion today has be second guessing it.
