Since I mostly fly Southwest and they now allow small pets, I bought their carrier. That way They can't give me any grief about it.
Cerise and I flew from Birmingham (when I picked her up) and I put a potty pad in it and a baby toy/blanket. I also placed a warm extra scarf I had with me, because I had held her for over two hours and under that seat she looked nervous peeking through the carrier screen. She curled up on it and went to sleep. I didn't give her any food or water.
