Yorkies can have trachea problems and I don't want to risk injury with a collar accident, so I don't use collars on a daily basis. I keep their ID tags on their harnesses. I do have several collars with the slide charms and hanging charms, they will wear when we're going out or for special occasions.
I would recommend one of the break-away cat collars if you want to keep a collar on your yorkie all of the time.
