Rio has those occasional nights where she doesn't want to sleep on the bed with us. One time she jumped off the bed when we had a loud thunderstorm - she was so scared! Another time something fell off our dresser after we had alreading turned off the bedroom lights and that scared her enough that she didn't want to sleep on the bed.
I've put her crate (with the door taken off) in our room to give her another sleeping option should she choose not to sleep with us on any particular night. But like most of you, she usually ends back up on the bed with us before the morning. it DOES hurt our feelings when she leaves - we have such a hard time falling asleep when she's not in bed with us!
