NEW YORK (AP) -- Budget cuts have a major animal care organization begging for donations.
New York City Animal Care and Control says it needs money to buy pet food. It also is accepting donated blankets, towels, canned dog and cat food, rubber toys and kitty litter.
The not-for-profit organization runs shelters under a contract with the city Health Department. It has to cut $317,000 from its budget by June and another $457,000 in the next fiscal year.
Good Samaritans are asked to call 212-788-4000 or go to the Web site . Donations can also be mailed to 11 Park Place, Suite 805, New York, N.Y. 10007.
