I have reared puppies with a megaesophagus problem
it can be serious in small pup's as they can starve to death,I get puppies refered to me with this problem they need a diet high in calories,I normally feed little and often and the food has to be of a baby food consistancy.
I feed butcher's meat loaf mushed up to a pulp and add baby rice and water,A dog with this problem can live a normal life if you can get the balance right,But if they get say a bit of solid food like say kibble they will bring it back up more or less straight away and then try and eat it again,In some dog's the throat swell's like a pelican pouch,
And the gland's in the neck also swell and feel hard/
I have a 3 year old chinese cresyed i took in at 6 week's old i managed to stabalise him and he now live's with a neighbour over the road and doing fantastic,Other's have not been so lucky and i have had to make the decision to put to sleep.
I hope your baby make's a full recovery from what is ailing him.
