My vet told me a story of the AKC getting after someone...a gentleman bought some kind of retriever that ended up being a really absurd weight at the vet's. This man got a lawyer or some kind of investigater to do a DNA test. The father of the puppy ended up being a neighbour dog that jumped the fence! The people who sold him the puppy had no idea and felt very bad. SO now there are about 7 puppies that are "AKC" that are really mutts floating about. |
That can happen. If someone questions the parantage with AKC, it costs $500. If it is proven that that's the wrong father, you get your $500 back and the breeder looses their AKC standing. If it isn't proven, you loose the $500.
