I need to take control of the situation and hold myself accountable for her behavior, after all it's my problem not hers. I don't know where to begin. Should I hire a trainer? I can't have her defecating on my furniture or on the floors, or anywhere but her litter box anymore, I've had enough and am prepared to do the leg work. Please help! |
Oh Gosh, i am sorry to hear that. Congrat on the new house though! I am not sure she will like this, but I think the best way to get this settled is to start from scratch and that means.....the crate "cringe". I know it may not be what you want to hear, I cringe at the thought and have only had my newest addition for 2 1/2 weeks. I did litter box train her, but never used the pads. I use compressed newspaper pellets. She took to it immediately! The first 2 days I took her to it every 2 hours. She was either in the crate or with me and every two hours I would take her to the box. Like I said, she caught on and by day two she climbed in that box as I turned my back and did her business. Since the breeder had trained them to go in card board boxes I cut out a cereal box and placed a thin layer of pellets on top of it. I don't know if that helped her any, but she got the point. So I would suggest starting at the beginning, keep your eye on your baby and take him/her to the box regularly. When he uses it, give him lots of love, praise and treats! Most importantly some free time or play time. He should soon be able to make the connection between using the potty and having play time. It won't be easy and you both might be miserable but it CAN be done. I use to foster and have taught puppies and grown dogs to potty properly using this technique....but you have to be patient and have to have eagle eyes on them at all times. The first sign of sniffing around and POP, you have got to get them to the potty! Hope this helps and good luck! Keep us posted.
