1 - Shots- From what I've been able to find out here, there are no vets that do shots by weight. I'm really scared to give them full doses all at once! The breeder I got Daddy from (not really a bad breeder, but not the best by a long shot) said she'd give them their shots. My only worry is that when they go to their forever homes the new vets will want to give them more shots... making it even worse for them! Thoughts
I'll answer your questins to the best of my ability. However, most of your questions should have been put forth way before you bred your pups.
1. Shot's: Google and read Dr Dodd's vaccination protocol. Shots should not be given before a pup is 8 weeks of age, doing so will supress mother's immunities[/B] If a vet wants to administer more innoculations.....have them find another vet.
2 - Mom is letting them have "a snack" but they are mostly eating puppy food with goat milk right now. How long will her antibodies stay in their systems? (how long before I need to have their shots done?)
The reason mom is not allowing them to nurse readily is because their milk teeth are coming in. Ouch!!!!!. Secondly, when pups are around 5 weeks of age mother's milk is not as rich as it once was....good time to begin the weaning process. It's best to innoculate between 8 and 9 weeks of age....as this will not supress mother's immunities.
3 - Do any of you have "forms" or questions that you always ask. I did Greyhound rescue so I know a lot of them, but if I had them right there in front of me it'd make it better. Litte girl AKA Diva is going to be tiny to small......... My little Marky was a tiny (3.5#) and I know how much extra care he took so I'm going to be even more picky..if that is even possible! What about sale contracts to require spay/nueter??
There are plenty of threads on here that have discussed how to conduct interview on potential new families (of which should have been done prior to the breeding). So, much information on what is a good contract and what isn't. Just google. Yes, all contracts should include a spay/nueter clause. Among other things.....insuring that the pup will be taken for annual check ups. Housing in a climate controlled home. No outside chaining (their are laws in various states for this). Fenced back yard. The list goes on and on and should include your responsibility as a breeder should something be genetically wrong with the pups or if the new owners can't keep the pup any longer.......Your contract and instructions should include everything that is best for the pup.
