I have the same problem and it's easy to say you have to clean the teeth every day. My sweet little dog turns into JAWS the shark if I even look at them , even the vet will not go near them unless she is under an anestetic. Her main food is dry and is supposed to clean the teeth as well but she is having problems.
I wonder if there is a natural sedative that will allow me to clean them and also keep my fingers?
