Pippin was throwing up several weeks ago and the vet put him on antibiotics. My daughter works for a medical microbiologist who worked at UC Davis for over a decade and worked closely with veterinary scientists. Although they focused more on primates, a lot of the intestinal medicine applies to other species, including dogs. She said to give him a half teaspoon of plain yogurt. It replaces the good bacteria cultures that the antibotics kill and assists the animal's digestive system in functioning smoothly. She also suggested cooking plain white rice in chicken broth (instead of water) and giving him a small amount to provide some nutrients while still taking it easy on his upset stomach. Pippin didn't complain. He loved the rice and yogurt, and he had no trouble keeping it down. I asked my vet before giving him the yougurt and he agreed with giving it to him.
