Hi Hun, I know this was posted a while ago but I have a story that I hope helps. Last year we rescued a 2 year old Golden Ret. we names Maui. He was so smart and sweet and calm but he was HUGE! He had issues walking too long, sitting too long and forget extended playing. He weighed around 90 pounds at the time. The vet told me to feed him the recommended food for 75-80 lbs dog for any food. We kept him on pedigree which he had been eating and reduced his content to that recommended weight on the label. We walked him twice a day for as long as he would go and then increased his walking once his stamina picked up. Anyway, no real results on the weight loss. Took him back to the vet a few months later and he had lost a whopping 4 pounds. I was disheartened. I had gradually changed him to iams but didn't want to give him a diet food. Well after that 4 lbs reality check I switched him over to Purina fit and trim. He loves the food, even if the content is not the best out there. We did everything the same and feed him 3 cups a day. We noticed him playing harder and longer and his walks were not so hard on him.....his recovery time was shorter as he would be done for the entire day after a walk, lol. We took him in recently, almost a year after getting him and he was down to 74 lbs!!! I knew he was thinner but WOW. The best thing I can tell you is to stick with it and don't give up on him. It takes time for the weight to come off but be persistent and you will see the results! Good luck.
